Unfortunately, even low-risk pregnancies can develop complications. These complications can affect either the mother (such as high blood pressure) or the baby (such as fetal growth problems) or both. As a specialist in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Dr. Colin Walsh is an expert in obstetric ultrasound and fetal problems.

The most common fetal problem is a concern over the fetal size (either too small or too big). Less commonly, a fetal abnormality is detected on ultrasound, usually at the 18-20 week fetal anatomy scan.
