Research Interests

My clinical interests lie primarily in maternal-fetal medicine / high-risk obstetrics, including:

  • Medical disorders in pregnancy and women with previous pregnancy complications
  • Advanced obstetric ultrasound and fetal medicine, including pregnancies complicated by structural fetal abnormalities or congenital infection
  • Options for prenatal diagnosis, including amniocentesis and CVS
  • Management of complex multiple pregnancy

My principal research interests relate to maternal-fetal medicine. Areas of published research include:

  • Obstetric complications, including gestational diabetes mellitus, fetal growth restriction and stillbirth
  • Monochorionic twins, TTTS and monoamniotic twins
  • Evidence-based surgical technique, particularly caesarean section and operative vaginal delivery
  • Congenital heart disorders and fetal echocardiography
  • Alloimmunisation (maternal antibodies) and intrauterine transfusion

I also have an interest in the medical and surgical management of female urinary incontinence, incorporating overactive bladder and stress incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse and have published extensively on this subject, including a chapter in a leading postgraduate gynaecology textbook.

Teaching and Supervision

  • Ultrasound teaching and supervision of registrars and fellows in fetal medicine
  • Clinical teaching of ITP registrars in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • I have also supervised a number of medical students and residents during clinical research projects, many of whom have successfully published papers in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
