At SHORE for Women, we are continuing to improve the prenatal screening and diagnosis options available to our pregnant women (www.shoreforwomen.com.au/down-syndrome-chromosomal-screening).
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) uses a maternal blood sample (taken after 10 weeks) to extract fetal DNA, which is then tested for the 4 most common chromosomal problems, including Down syndrome. We have chosen the Genesyte™ test for our patients, as the sample is analysed here in Australia (rather than the USA) which offers women a quicker result (4-5 days). NIPT testing is not Medicare-rebatable and the current cost payable to the laboratory is $445.
We now offer an all-inclusive service for prenatal screening, performed by Colin Walsh, an experienced Fetal Medicine specialist. Nuchal translucency ultrasound scans, blood sampling for NIPT, CVS and amniocentesis procedures are all performed in our modern consulting suites at 460 Pacific Highway.
